Regarding Forum Articles and Responses
While there is no expectation that Round Table articles will be
written in Nobel Laureate style, it is hoped that reasonable care
will be taken toward matters of grammar, punctuation, and basic
elements of style, including the use of lower case text with
appropriate capitalization.
It is anticipated that as little editing as possible will be
done to articles submitted to the Round Table, and especially to
comments on articles already published,in order to maintain a maximum
sense of analysts participating in forums in their own manner and
style. However, in the event that some degree of editing is considered
necessary (pertaining to style, never content), a draft of the
edited copy will be returned, via email, to the sender for approval,
provided the changes are not trivial and are extensive enough to
justify the time delay required to do so. Style will be considered
to include matters of civility. It is anticipated that editing will
seldom be necessary, but it is important to make the policy clear
from the outset.
As a rule, articles will be formatted on the website in a column
which is 520 pixels wide, with a sidebar to the left which is 120
pixels. (The limit of 640 pixels allows for printing without the
loss of text.) While text formatted differently can easily be
reformatted to fit these dimensions, graphics are not easily
altered and therefore should be constrained, if possible, to a
maximum width of 520 pixels, or, when necessary to be wider, to 640
pixels. Larger graphics, such as a detailed map requiring greater
size for readability, should be submitted as separate files and
will be linked from the article rather than included within.
Authors submitting to the Round Table are encouraged to
use word processing software (e.g., MS Word), with graphics
either incorporated or separate in jpg, gif, or other
common graphical format.
To be published, articles and prepared responses to articles must
be accompanied by the name and place of employment of the author.
Optionally, job title and professional associations may also be
included. No pseudonyms will be allowed.
Disclaimer: Opinions and Factual Claims of Authors
Naturally, the opinions expressed in Round Table forums, including the
lead articles as well as the responses, are those of the authors and do not
represent the Crime Analyst's Round Table or its board in any way. The same
is true of statements asserted as fact which may be considered untrue or
subject to disagreement.
